Scarlette Kerr
Winston-Salem, NC 27103
Scarlette Kerr is a native of Virginia and moved to Winston-Salem in 2018. She has a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy with an Emphasis in Injury-Preventive Keyboard Technique from Salem College and a Bachelor of Music from James Madison University in Piano Performance with an emphasis in Accompanying.
Scarlette’s piano studio, Music at 906, emphasizes learning how to hear and “audiate” music as one learns to hear and speak a language. Inspired by the work of Dr. Edwin E. Gordon’s Music Learning Theory, Scarlette prioritizes “audiation” as an essential skill in learning how to make music through singing and movement away from the piano, and improvisation at the piano.
She also focuses on healthy motor skill development using Dr. Barbara Lister-Sink’s Lister-Sink Method, a researched-based, step-by-step sequence of introducing fine motor skills to the piano. Scarlette is also a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music through the Music Teachers National Association.
